More Diets

As I type this post my 18 month old is standing right next to me, on my chair, typing and clicking.

Makes posting very difficult. Having two kids under 2 and one with autism, ensures I have no spare moment in the day (or night).

So I will post some yummy food pictures instead.

We had some medical problems with K recently. He was in a lot of pain and vomiting. It has been a recurring thing for the last two years, but never this bad. Doctors always turn us away saying a variety of things like, "24 hour stomach flu", stomach distention because of swallowing too much water swimming and so on. This time someone did an X-ray at the emergency, because it was a civic holiday and the Ultrasound tech was not available in the middle of the night. So a massive impaction was discovered all the way up to the top of K's colon. He probably has had chronic constipation again and really bad. We just never know. We thought this was a problem we had solved, but clearly not.

Now we know, so we eliminate even more things from his diet. Good thing is, that being on a special diet for years has made him more receptive to different foods. It is tough keeping a kid full without carbs, but I am trying the best I can.

Here is some stuff I made this week.

Brown buttered green beans with roasted almonds

Vege pulao with carrots, parsnips, broccoli
(I am cutting out rice, grains and absolutely no potatoes)

Yogurt with coriander and cucumbers with cumin

K doesn't eat yogurt, and I don't want to force him to eat anything. Food is something to be enjoyed, but sometimes you have to coerce kids to eat what is good for them and not making them sick.

No more GF breads, french fries, cereal and low doses of rice. We are mostly on veges, fruits, smoothies and stuff.

Its a lot of work. But I can tell he is calmer and feeling better.

He also has several stones in his kidney (because of an old drainage problem since birth) and that is something I am dreading. What will happen when he passes them out. So that's some updates from us.

Will do another post about some really cool things he has been doing.

  1. Oh, the poor boy. Thankfully you have discovered the problem and are working towards sorting it out. I like that he is open to eating such a variety of foods and your food looks extremely delicious. I look forward to hearing about the cool things. :)

  3. I'm so glad you are finding that dealing with his gut is helping! Hope K feels more receptive to life now that he is on the mend.

  4. Our constipation was helped when we treated yeast (probiotcs and antifungals) and by using enzymes. Glad you figured out what was causing the vomiting. I have seen children with acid reflux caused by impaction but your poor guy must have been really miserable. Al Hamdulillah you found the problem.

  5. I don't know if Khaled would like Kefir or not, but maybe that could be tried? Just a thought!
